OUR STORY

Nyangani Renewable Energy (Pvt) Ltd (NRE) is a Zimbabwean Independent Power Producer (IPP). Created in 2007, it has raised equity and loan capital to build 39MW of hydroelectric and solar generation to deliver electricity into the Zimbabwe national grid operated by the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (Pvt) Ltd (ZETDC). NRE has also constructed 8.2MW of hydroelectric power generation in Malawi which supplies electricity to Electrical Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM).

The company was formed to improve access to electricity to the resident population of the Honde Valley (64,500). This area was poorly served by the national grid with limited connections and very regular power cuts. Over the last 15 years, the Honde Valley has become a net exporter of electricity to Manicaland and regularly keeps the lights on in Mutare.
